[selections from] After They Rocked
2014-02-25
Live music is one of the most powerful forces in my life; it has an ability to induce levels of natural ecstasy that no substance, alcoholic or other, can compare to. This project was born out of my fascination for rock and roll's incredible transformative properties.
After They Rocked is an on-going diptych series aimed at documenting, in the purest sense, both the physical and metaphysical transformations that musicians go through while playing. Images are taken against a white backdrop before going on stage, and again right after. Sometimes the difference is obvious, a mess of hair and a sweaty face, other times it's more subtle, like a smirk.
What follows is the very first part of the project, which I will be continuously adding to throughout 2014. These images were made over the course of two evenings in mid-December, 2013, at a
Mama Coco's Funk Kitchen showcase.
Special thanks to all the bands that participated. Working within Brooklyn's DIY music scene has brought me nothing but joy and happiness.
