Pretty Mean When It Wants to Be
Posted 2012-01-04
New
York City is an intimidating place to both live/work in as well as to
photograph. And while I currently live just across the river in NJ (for
now), after nearly a year and a half working in midtown Manhattan and
gallivanting through 3 of the boroughs, I am slowly becoming more
comfortable and confident in the streets, both behind the camera and as a
pedestrian. That said, now feels like the perfect time to start getting
serious about documenting my surroundings -- not just shooting things I
encounter on the daily, but rather seeking out new things and people to
photograph. I feel the spirit of an explorer growing inside of me each
time I make an awkward photograph of a complete stranger I don't know
and will never see again.
This area here will be dedicating
to keeping you updated on my ventures in New York City street
photography. My goal for 2012 is to spend a full day, every Sunday,
shooting in a different part of one of New York City's boroughs
alongside my friend, and fellow photographer, Luke Nilsson.
Street
photography, like many things, takes a great deal of patience, courage
and a spirit for adventure. And while this area will concentrate mainly
on strangers, it will not only consists of photographs of people.
I'm excited to see where this takes me.
