Book no.3

It's been nearly 10 years since the first issue of Dan's Zine was artfully photocopied on my father's office Xerox machines and handed out to 5 or 6 friends, and 7 years since the final issue was released.

54,000 pages of printer paper ago, I was a younger man, naive, and frustrated with the way the world was. I felt that the only way I could change anything, the only way I could have my own piece of this rapidly-expanding universe, was to start something that was my own.

Over the years, Dan's Zine became something my friends and I took great pride in month to month. It was truly a labor of love, a community project of sorts. Of course that community was comprised mainly of misfit skateboarders, weirdos, dweebs and strange artsy kids, and the product was a crudely stapled publication, printed in black and white, every fucking month. But the goal was simple: An honest glimpse into the lives and minds of a bunch of punk-ass teenagers. And ultimately, it was Dan's Zine that made me fall in love with photojournalism and the printed world in general.

Twice I dabbled with bringing back the zine. The first time was a 1 year reunion issue we put together after my freshman year of college. The second time was a little over a year ago when I published TheLondonBroil Book no.1, as a limited-run full-bleed, color photobook. That book in turn laid the framework for the new zine and has since been re-issued (digitally), right here, as Book no.1.

The images that follow are definitely true to the core message of the original zine, and probably some of my most honest work: a jumble of film, studio and candids. Hope ya dig.
